I bet you've noticed there's a bunch of different hats that all look similar but have different wearing temperatures. So, what's up with that? I'll tell you. One-layered, double-layered and merino-lined hats all serve the same purpose. They aim to keep your head safe and warm. Today, however, we're gonna talk about one-layered merino beanie MIRREN and merino wool scarf MADDI, created by one of Breden's owners and co-founders, Erko Leemet.
CHILDHOOD TRAUMA FROM WOOL
Our chief of finance is a G.I. Joe, because he's the ultimate test subject for any outdoor gear. Erko loves sports and the great outdoors and he runs, swims, hikes, fishes and rides all kinds of vehicles. That's also the main reason he came up with his invention - a one-layered merino wool hat and tube-scarf. "I really love this material because it regulates body temperature, whisks away excess moisture and breathes well. All these qualities are met by our double-layered merino hats and scarves as well, but during active sport they might be a bit too thick. So here came MIRREN and MADDI, that I sometimes even don’t notice I’m wearing. But I do notice when I'm not wearing them, because merino wool is very different from synthetic materials and cotton," he explains.
The reason behind the creation of merino hat MIRREN and merino scarf MADDI can be found deep inside Erko's childhood - a very relatable memory that we more or less all share. Of course we're talking about rough wool pants, vests or itchy mittens knitted by our lovely grandmas. It still makes us at least a bit itchy, when thinking about wool, doesn't it? Luckily it goes without saying that merino wool is nothing like that. Your kid is already loving this material, so why shouldn't you?
WHEN AND WHERE
MIRREN and MADDI are so thin, light and airy that they never make you sweat. They can be worn under any helmet or hood and fold into tiny squares that it can be tucked anywhere. Since they're best used between temperatures+5°C to +15°C / 41 to 59°F, they withstand the moody weather in spring, autumn and even some chillier summer nights. The only thing MADDI and MIRREN won't stand is cold wind. Then you might wanna opt for double-layered merino wool beanie LUKKA and tube-scarf LEON or even a blend of cotton and wool that make up hats, scarves and hat-scarves called BONNY, BOBBY and BRUNO.
There's also one thing you should know about temperature. Even though their wearing temperature is+5°C to +15°C / 41 to 59°F, it must be taken into account that it applies in spring. Autumn wearing temperatures can be a little lower (0 to 10°C). Why? Because we feel temperatures differently when transitioning from one season to another. And you must consider if you're going to wear your hat during active movement - if not, there are thicker and warmer options.
“I love that I don’t need to wash it after every use. In fact, it’s best to wash it as little as possible because merino wool has antibacterial properties and is therefore self-cleaning.”
